Here are the answers to some of the Frequently Asked Questions on Gulliver Ireland. If you have a question not covered here, our Support Team will be happy to help you.' Contact Us

1. What is Gulliver Ireland?

Gulliver Ireland is Ireland’s leading cost effective provider of tourism information and reservations.

Gulliver is a reservation system that allows you the opportunity to receive extra bookings through a variety of channels.

2. How does the Gulliver reservation system work?

Gulliver works by gathering available rooms/units from accommodation suppliers and making them available for sale to visitors to Ireland and people travelling within the country.

Gulliver Ireland acts as an agent to sell these rooms/units through three channels. The Tourist Information Office network, Gulliver International Contact Centre and through many websites/portals on the Internet including Gulliver Ireland’s own portal GoIreland.com

As an agent we take 10% of the cost of each booking from the customer’s credit card at the time of booking. The 90% balance is what the customer pays directly to you. The guest also pays us a small transaction or booking fee to make the booking.

3. Why should I be a member of Gulliver Ireland?

Becoming a member of Gulliver Ireland means that you can receive extra bookings from three sales channels. The Gulliver Ireland International Contact Centre, The Tourist Office network, and through many affiliate websites/portals including Gulliver Ireland’s own portal GoIreland.com.

4. Will Gulliver guarantee more bookings?

We guarantee that we will put your property in the best possible position to increase your chances of receiving more bookings.

5. Are Gulliver Ireland and Fáilte Ireland the same thing?

No, Gulliver and Fáilte Ireland are two separate organisations. Gulliver Ireland is a private company and part of the International Foreign Exchange Company, Fexco. Fexco purchased the Gulliver system from Fáilte Ireland (then Bord Fáilte) and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in 1997. The Tourist Bords retain a 26% shareholding of Gulliver Ireland.

6. If I pay Fáilte Ireland membership do I have to pay Gulliver Ireland membership?

Fáilte Ireland and Gulliver Ireland membership are separate. If you pay Fáilte Ireland membership and choose not to join Gulliver, your property information will be displayed on the Fáilte Ireland, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and the Tourism Ireland websites but you will not be able to receive bookings from these websites. You will also not receive bookings from the Gulliver Ireland Contact Centre, the *Tourist Offices nationwide, GoIreland.com and the family of Gulliver Ireland associated websites/portals.

Gulliver works with Bord Fáilte approved property only.

*If you have paid membership to you own Regional Tourist Authority, you can receive bookings from your local Tourist Offices.

7. What’s the difference between Regional Tourist Authority and Gulliver Ireland membership?

RTA and Gulliver Ireland membership are completely separate. If you pay your RTA members ship and not Gulliver Ireland membership, then you are entitled to receive bookings through your local Tourist Offices only.

If you pay Gulliver Ireland membership and not your local RTA membership, then you can receive bookings from the Gulliver Contact Centre, the Gulliver Ireland associated websites/portals and from Tourist Offices throughout the country but not your local Tourist Offices.

8. What’s the difference between ‘allocation’ and ‘request’ membership?

When you join Gulliver Ireland you can choose whether to allocate rooms or not. If you allocate rooms (allocation member) you have a better chance of receiving bookings as your property can be booked through many websites/portals on the Internet. The Contact Centre and Tourist Offices will select properties that have allocated rooms over property that have not.

If you choose not to allocate rooms then you are referred to as a ‘request member’. This means that the Contact Centre and the Tourist Offices must telephone you to check your availability and ask you to take a booking. Request members receive no online bookings and do not get priority in the Contact Centre or Tourist Offices.

Allocating rooms is by far the best option to choose.

9. What is Gullnet and how does it work?

Gullnet is the accommodation supplier best form of connection with the Gulliver system. It’s your own mini front office system that allows you to manage your property’s availability and selling prices quickly and easily.

It works through the Internet, so all you need is a computer and Internet access. You log into the Gulliver website www.gulliver,ie/gullnet and enter your username and password that we’ve given you. From here you have many controls such as:

· Pick up new bookings you have received from the Gulliver sales channels

· Set and adjust availability for the year

· Set and adjust selling prices for the year

· View / add / edit your Gulliver property and much more

We will teach you how to use the system over the phone and you can always call us with any questions.

10. I have no computer experience, Gullnet sounds very complicated

Many people feel the same way at first. However, once they try it they find it a very easy system to use. There are well over 3,000 small businesses using Gullnet successfully. We supply full training over the telephone and our support line is open 6 days a week if you need any help.

11. What is Book Now and how does it work?

Book Now is a link to the Gulliver system that allows you to receive bookings through your own website. We give your webmaster a piece of code that he/she programes into your website. This allows visitors to your site to click on a “Book Now” button which opens a page with a small search engine.

They put in the dates, number of people etc. and search for availability. Once you have availability on the Gulliver system, they can make the booking there and then. You will be notified of the booking in the usual way.

Putting a booking engine on your website can cost a lot of money. It’s a great idea, particularly for small business, and as it’s free of charge we are encouraging everyone to take it.

12. What are ‘online bookings’ and how can I get them?

Online bookings are bookings that the general public makes on a particular website/portal on the Internet. If you are a Gulliver Ireland member and allocate rooms/unit you will automatically get bookings from the Gulliver portal GoIreland.com and the many more websites/portals we are affiliated with.

13. Will Gulliver Ireland market my property?

All Gulliver Ireland members and especially those who allocate rooms/units will benefit from the extensive exposure that Gulliver Ireland offers through the International Contact Centre, the network of Tourist Offices and our growing family of Gulliver Ireland associated websites/portals.

Over 1.5 million online searches for accommodation will be done on Gulliver this year. Many of these visitors won’t book over the Internet but they will use the service to research accommodation and book it either by contacting you directly, through the Contact Centre or in a Tourist Office.
